How Can I Lose Weight?

Many people are asking the question, "How can I lose weight?" in today's times and it is not surprising, considering horrendous statistical facts which say that half of the US population being above obesity levels. However, the sad pity is that most of the methods do not work as well as they promise. Some of these methods are blatantly wrong and will cause more worry than benefits. Let us take a look at the right approaches you have to use when you are planning to lose weight for good.

Get into a weight loss program. That doesn't mean you have to join an expensive gym program. Instead, you can formulate your own program using a mix of healthy diet and exercise. Here's what you need to do.

Healthy Diet

What constitutes a healthy diet actually? Most weight watchers think that eating frugally is the way to go. This is definitely not so. If you starve yourself, you are probably going to eat more afterward. The best thing is to keep eating in small portions throughout the day so that the body gets good time to metabolize what you have eaten. Additionally, you need to include a lot of fiber in your diet. Fiber is important because it aids in the digestion of food and eliminates all that has not been digested properly.

Reduce two things from your diet, actually eliminate them if possible – sugar and saturated fats. You can substitute sugar with natural sweeteners and saturated fats with the polyunsaturated fats that are considered to be healthier.

Exercise

Again, people have a wrong impression about what kind of exercise they must do. They do strenuous workouts, including crunches and sit ups in a bid to lose weight. However, you will be surprised to know that these methods do not help in weight loss at all. Since body fat is present all over, targeting only specific parts of the body doesn't help. Instead if you involve yourself with some brisk aerobic activity for just about half an hour each morning, it will help in bringing your weight down. Walking, cycling, jogging – do anything you please for a half hour a day and you will see the method working better than any amount of resistance training can.

When you ask people "How can I lose weight?" you will get several answers and most of them will work initially. There is always three to four pounds of pure water content in bodies of overweight people. Initially, it is this water which will be lost, giving the impression that the method is working fine. However, you need to pursue your efforts in order to make any method work and not give it up when you see the initial results.
